Winter In the Country Folk Art

Lianne Schneider
Medium
Digital Art - Digital Painting/photographic Art
Description
This is a hand-painted digital oil based only in part on a work by George Henry Durrie called "Winter Scene: New Haven Connecticut 1858." The original is in the public domain. Using the foreground elements from that painting, I converted those into my own more primitive folk art style and combined it with other folk art elements in the background. The whole is a multilayered composite accomplished entirely by hand and using a number of additional filters to arrive at the final effect in a process similar to early chromolithography.
According to Wikipedia: "Folk art encompasses art produced from an indigenous culture or by peasants or other laboring tradespeople. In contrast to fine art, folk art is primarily utilitarian and decorative rather than purely aesthetic. Folk Art is characterized by a naive style, in which traditional rules of proportion and perspective are not employed. Folk art expresses cultural identity by conveying shared community values and aesthetics. It encompasses a range of utilitarian and decorative media, including cloth, wood, paper, clay, metal and more."

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Thank you for your interest in my artwork. I am a western New York based artist with a passion for the sea and a deep love for the natural world around me. The Fine Art America Watermark will NOT appear on the finished product.
This painting, as with most of my digital paintings, is an ORIGINAL work of art created entirely on a Wacom tablet using a number of different painting programs and various genres of painting styles overlaid upon each other, much the same as the old printing process of chromolithography. In this case, the reference images are public domain photographs and public domain paintings from the Wiki paintings collection. In this case, the dominant elements are recreated from a George Henry Durrie painting. As a composite, the entire work is considered original.
Because the final creations are entirely digital in nature they are considered to be original art work, not reproductions. According to the International Association of Fine Art Digital Print Makers (IAFADP), "An original digital print is not based upon using original artwork outside of the computer. The artist may use elements as source materials, such as photographs, drawings or other appropriated images (those in the public domain), but THE FINAL FORM OF THE WORK EXISTS ONLY IN THE COMPUTER AND AS THE FINAL PRINT OR AS AN EDITION OF PRINTS." Furthermore, according to ArtBusiness.com, there is a distinct difference in value between a print/scan of an original watercolor, painting or photograph "...as opposed to original digital works of art created by digital artists entirely or in part on computers which ARE considered to be unique."
Please contact the artist, Lianne Schneider, directly if you purchase this image as a giclee print on canvas, framed or unframed. A signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity is available for each canvas indicating title of the work, my name, date of creation, a thumbnail of the painting, the origin of original work if the painting is a derivative, the number of your print in the limited printing and a guarantee that the work will no longer be available to the public in a canvas format once a total of 25 canvas prints are sold from all potential vendors.

I am just now home after the snow storm blocked my return by five days. It will take me some time to catch up but I wanted to thank you all now until I can find time to visit each of you. Special thanks as well to the hosts who have featured this painting and whom I have not had time to acknowledge. I appreciate it so much.
